The Woodgate Community Hub

Woodgate’s Community Hub will include a village store, café and meeting rooms which will be managed as a true community business, guaranteeing its longevity as a crucial service to residents and locals a like.

In what is a unique relationship Thakeham is working closely with the Plunkett Foundation which has a wealth of experience nationally and locally in enabling communities to come together in the form of a community business to create and run community facilities including pubs and shops.

Thakeham is building, fitting out and making this hub available to the local community. Plunkett will be on hand every step of the way to help set up the community, engage with local residents to enable it to operate and flourish and in doing so, echo the community values that underpin the ethos of the whole development.

Discussion so far…

So far Thakeham and Plunkett hosted a couple of webinars to explore the plans for the new community hub as part of the Woodgate development.

You can watch back the recording of the first presentation on Zoom Cloud here and can access the slides from the presentation here.

The community steering group

How to get involved:

Plunkett and Thakeham will be on hand to help every step of the way, but this is your community business to shape, create and enjoy!

If you are interested in joining the steering group simply contact [email protected]

We will then be in touch to confirm the best date for the first community steering group meeting facilitated by Helen, your Plunkett adviser.

As a community resident, it is important that you shape the vision for the community hub. It might be that you want to:

  • See fresh local food on the shelf
  • Create employment opportunities for local young people
  • Start up a community book club
  • Support local causes with the profits made from the hub

Whatever your thoughts big and small, we need to hear them, and there will be plenty of opportunities to share your ideas.

The next step is to create this informal steering group made up of community residents and local stakeholders to start exploring plans in more depth and to help create an action plan.

COMING SOON: Work on the community hub is progressing.

If you are interested in finding out more about being part of this group, please do email an expression of interest to Josie at [email protected].

In your email, please include your full name, best contact email and if there is an element of the community hub that is of particular interest to you – e.g. to share your retail expertise to help plan the shop.
