Woodgate’s New Community Hub

Creating a community hub for everyone

Thakeham is working closely with the Plunkett Foundation  to open the new community hub. Plunkett is a national charity that specialises in the creation of community businesses,  with a wealth of experience nationally and locally in enabling communities to come together in the form of a community trust to create and run facilities including pubs and shops.

At Woodgate, Thakeham will be building, fitting out and then gifting this shop to the community trust, due to be completed this Autumn. Plunkett will set the trust up, engage with local residents to enable it to operate and flourish and in doing so echo the community values that underpin the ethos of the whole development.

Starting conversations with the local community

Last week we hosted two live webinars to explore the plans for the new community hub as part of the Woodgate development. We were delighted to welcome so many local residents to the open meetings and it was great to hear the positivity and enthusiasm towards the new community hub plans. Shaping the services and activities it hosts, and how it can best serve the needs of the local community, will be led by the local community with the support of Thakeham and Plunkett. Those attending the meetings had lots of ideas to share that will all contribute to creating a hub that is much used and valued by all of the residents in the locality.

You can watch back the recording of the presentation on Zoom Cloud here and can access the slides from the presentation here.

Getting involved

Following these initial conversations, the next step is to create an informal steering group made up of community residents and local stakeholders to start exploring plans in more depth and to help create an action plan.

If you are interested in finding out more about being part of this group, please do email an expression of interest to Josie at [email protected]. In your email, please include your full name, best contact email and if there is an element of the community hub that is of particular interest to you – e.g. to share your retail expertise to help plan the shop.

If you have any questions at any time on the development of the hub or ideas of how the hub can be used, please feel free to email [email protected]
